OUR PARTNERS’ STORIES

It is at ten o’clock precisely, on the morning of Monday November 3rd, 1817 that the Bank of Montreal opened its doors for the first time. Since then, it has not stopped serving its clients. After humble beginnings—with a single branch set up in a rented house at 32 St-Paul Street—it now serves our banking and investment clients as well as its institutional clients from one end to the other in North America and worldwide. To meet its growing needs, it had to construct a new building in 1845, at 119 St-Jacques Street, that it still occupies today. Nine merchants were part of the founding group. Today its workforce has reached 47 000 talented and dedicated employees to serve over 12 million customers. And, while the initial capital base was 250 000 pounds sterling, its total assets now amount to $633 billion (April 30th, 2015). Building on the momentum that began nearly 200 years ago, BMO continues to grow and seize every new opportunity to offer the products, services and expertise that their clients need to meet and exceed their financial goals. BMO provides a broad range of products and services in the areas of retail banking, wealth management and investment banking through three operating groups: Personal and Commercial banking services, Wealth Management and BMO Capital Markets. The BMO circuit is exciting. It is with pride that BMO celebrate its past and draw from this rich tradition of excellence.

Six years after the birth of the telephone, one of the most transformational technologies of the modern age, Bell Canada planted its first roots in Montréal. Since that day – April 29, 1880 – the city has been home to our commitment to provide Canadians with better ways to connect with each other and their world. The first generation of Bell employees in Montréal – people like Florence Lebeau, Charles F. Sise, William J. Gilmour – was followed by thousands who have done everything from connecting poles and stringing wire for basic telephone sets to installing fibre optic networks and designing sophisticated communications systems to serve millions of customers, all the while volunteering countless hours in the community. No longer just “the phone company”, today Bell leads Canada’s broadband revolution with a full suite of offerings from Internet and information technology services to top-rated TV and radio holdings and content creation. We also invest heavily in iconic symbols of excellence and community pride like the Montreal Canadiens and Francofolies de Montréal. And we are proud to have been named one of the city’s top employers 4 years straight, in part on the strength of Bell Let’s Talk, the largest ever corporate commitment to improving mental health. Bon anniversaire, Montréal! We could not ask for a better place to call home!
